On a nice day, it’s a good idea to get the kids outside for a little fresh air. Some kids are easy to convince to go outdoors, while others need some coaxing. But giving kids our neighborhood scavenger hunt might be the right thing to get even the most reluctant child to lace up his shoes. And with this scavenger hunt, the goal is to go beyond the back yard and discover new things.
Kids are naturally curious! If they’ve already explored every inch of your yard and are itching to do something new, they might like to go for a stroll in the neighborhood. Our neighborhood scavenger hunt will give them purpose as you walk the dog or simply wander around the block. Print out a free copy for each of your kids, slip on your shoes, and go!
Make it a goal to find all the items on the list and then return home to celebrate with some lemonade or hot chocolate—because there’s no reason not to do this scavenger hunt in the cold months as well as the warm ones. The kids may need to bundle up, but that can make this adventure even more exciting as things just look different in the winter. It’s always a good idea to get active.
Don’t forget to bring pencils to check off the items you spot. Doing our neighborhood scavenger hunt as a family might give your kids a closer look at their neighborhood. If walking the neighborhood is too slow for your family’s speed, hop on bikes. But be ready for frequent stops. We have lots of items for you to find. Make some memories together, and most of all, have fun!
