It’s summer! Yay! We here at iMOM wish you lots of sunny days, lots of downtime, and very few cries of “I’m bored!” But, since we can’t make all of your wishes come true you are definitely going to hear some “I’m boreds!” this summer. So we’ve created a little activity to banish the boredom for at least a little while—our Summer This or That Question printable. (And once your kids have finished the This or That Game, also print out our Summer Bucket List for them).
Not only do kids really get excited about answering Summer This or That questions, but they can also fill the educational void in the summer—really! Not that you want your kids to know that you’re going educational on them, but my teacher brain loves some of the hidden benefits of This or That questions. They help with critical thinking skills, develop visual imagery abilities, and help children learn to compare and contrast. So bring on the This or That!
To really raise the level of fun, if you can handle a little noise, here’s something I did with my own kids when we played: have your kids cut out the Summer This or That questions. Fold each one into a tiny piece. Roll up the questions and put them into balloons that haven’t been blown up. Blow up the balloons and tie them. Then, let your kids pop the balloons one at a time and answer the question that flutters out. If you have a child who doesn’t like loud noises, make a tiny hole in the balloon instead, and once the air is out of the balloon, cut it open. You can also take our Summer This or That Game on your road trips with these other road trip printables and ask them in the car or around the dinner table.
