History is fascinating and can be a lot of fun. Follow these instructions and watch how easily your kids can learn about our country.

Preparing for the game:

  1. Print the game pages
  2. Roll each page like a scroll so that the # at the top faces out and tie with a ribbon or string.
  3. Hide the scrolls in different locations in the yard or house.

Playing the game:

  1. Instruct the children to find the scrolls. You may want to specify how many scrolls each child may find.  For example, there are 12 scrolls, if you have 3 children playing allow instruct each child to find 4 and then come sit down.
  2. When the children have all completed their hunt, ask who has scroll number 1 and ask them to open the scroll.
  3. Have them show the picture to the other children and read about the historical item.
  4. Then ask who has scroll #2 and ask them to open and read it. Continue with all of the scrolls

Fourth of July Trivia Game https://www.imom.com/printable/fourth-of-july-trivia-game/ Wed, 11 Jun 2014 04:00:00 +0000 https://imom.af6v7q9l-liquidwebsites.com/printable/fourth-of-july-trivia-game/ It was a warm and humid night in the oldest city in the United States known as St. Augustine. I and a few of my friends were ready to watch the annual firework show. My heart raced as hundreds of fireworks exploded, one after another, making the sky look like it was on fire. Then three went off in a row spelling U- S- A- as the crowds loudly chanted, “USA, USA, USA.” Then another went shooting into the sky; spelling out FREEDOM as it exploded. The tiny fingers of kids pointed into the sky with amazement in their eyes as their parents started to sing the “Star Spangled Banner.” This place opened my eyes to the true meaning of Independence Day.

It was a warm and humid night in the oldest city in the United States known as St. Augustine. I and a few of my friends were ready to watch the annual fireworks show. My heart raced as hundreds of fireworks exploded, one after another, making the sky look like it was on fire. Then three went off in a row spelling U- S- A- as the crowds loudly chanted, “USA, USA, USA.” Then another went shooting into the sky, spelling out FREEDOM as it exploded. The tiny fingers of kids pointed into the sky with amazement in their eyes as their parents started to sing the “Star Spangled Banner.” This place opened my eyes to the true meaning of Independence Day.

Do your kids know the true meaning of July fourth? If not, this trivia below will help unify your family by increasing everyone’s knowledge about our country’s freedom. Test your kids’ knowledge today!

Preparing for the Game:

  1. Prepare a sheet cake and cut into 24 slices.
  2. Print out the “4th of July Trivia Game” sheets (1 flag sheet and 1 answer key).
  3. Cut out each trivia question flag (24 total)
  4.  Fold trivia question in half and place toothpick in the fold, then glue or staple the toothpick in place.
  5. Using the toothpicks, insert a trivia question flag into each slice of cake. If you are playing with less than 24 people you can insert multiple flags on one piece of cake.

Playing the Game:

  1. Choose an adult to moderate the game and give them the answer key.
  2. Pass out trivia slips or slices of cake. You will notice that each trivia tab has either stars or stripes on it. These represent the two teams, Stars and Stripes. If placing two or more flags on one piece of cake make sure they are from the same team.
  3. Use the number on the left-hand corner of the flags to determine the order of play. Whoever has number one will start. Continue in numerical order from 1 to 24.
  4. Number 1 will ask their trivia question to the members of his or her team (Stars or Stripes). The team should deliberate as a group and decide on one answer.  The moderator uses the answer sheet to confirm.
  5. The game moderator must keep score. The team that gets the most answers correct wins!

Over 200 years ago, after much thought and prayer, fully knowing their lives would be at risk, the great men of our country issued a declaration of independence. The result was the opportunity for us to enjoy freedoms that have allowed our country to prosper as no other country before it. We have so much to be grateful for.

How often should you talk to your children about what you’re thankful for? Maybe you say a prayer every night and thank God for each other, your warm beds, and your dog or fish. Kids need to see parents expressing thanks, too, and our Declaration of Gratefulness is a fun way to make saying “thanks” a formal affair.

You can use this printable on Thanksgiving year after year. Wouldn’t it be sweet see how your list of reasons to be thankful grows, tracking it year after year? Or print the page on Independence Day and focus on why you’re grateful for your freedom, safe home, and personal rights. As your children get older, they’ll be able to understand more profoundly how blessed we are to have what we do.

So gather your family to discuss and list the freedoms, people, and opportunities for which your family is grateful. Use the Declaration of Gratefulness to form your list. Print multiple copies if you’re celebrating with other families, and take turns reading your declarations to each other.

When you’ve finished reading your family declaration, consider praying for our country, its leaders, and its future. Post your Declaration of Gratitude somewhere in your home where it can be added to any time you, your husband, or your kids realize another reason to be grateful.

Find other Thanksgiving activities, like our Thankful Tree, here. Or, if you use this printable on Independence Day, pair it with our Independence Day Trivia or Founding Fathers Cards.
