Ask any mom of college students, and she’ll tell you the school years fly by. One day your little one is toddling into preschool, and the next she’s sitting with a guidance counselor, picking her high school class schedule. These days are precious, so use iMOM’s First Day of School printable to write down the little things you want to remember forever.

Every year, along with the obligatory first-day photo, have your kiddo fill in the blanks on our First Day of School printable. Keep the sheets in a memory book or a special folder in your nightstand drawer. You and the kids will love to look back over the years and see how they changed and how some things managed to stay the same. Did your daughter have the same best friend for five whole years? Did your son’s love for PB&J sandwiches only last through fourth grade when he moved on to a “cooler” sandwich?

What’s the perfect age for your child to complete our First Day of School printable? Any age! You’ll marvel at the way your kindergartener writes her name in wobbly all caps just the same as you’ll smirk at your middle schooler’s attempt at a fancy signature. Will your child’s career aspirations stay the same as he grows up, or will he realize being a marine biologist means you have to like science and math and leave the dream behind?

Printing this simple page will help you keep track of some tiny details we tend to forget about these special years of parenting. So print a stack or bookmark the page and come back year after year. Want more great back-to-school content? Here are lunchbox notes, conversation starters, and charts to motivate your kids to make this their best year yet.

It’s lunchtime! When your son sits down in front of his lunchbox in the cafeteria at school, what does he look forward to most? Probably the fruit snacks. But there’s something you can add to his packed lunch that will be just as exciting for him as his favorite lunchtime side dish: lunchbox notes for boys.

Your son spends eight hours a day at school—and some school days can be tough. You can lighten your son’s load with these free and cute printable lunchbox notes for boys. Slip one into his lunchbox to brighten his day, to thank him for his hard work, to affirm his good choices, and to express what all boys need to know: how loved he is. No matter who he sits with or what he has to eat, he will be uplifted when he is encouraged by the fun note you left for him.

So keep them in a secret (but handy) place, and after your son’s lunch is packed, grab your scissors and cut out the note that you think will bring a smile to his face. You could even print these lunchbox notes for boys on adhesive paper and stick one to a bag of chips or those tasty fruit snacks. As he opens the bag, he’ll sit a little taller because he knows his mom thinks he’s an amazing kid. Our boys (especially the ones who act tough) need to know they always have love and warmth coming from Mom, and a little note in the middle of the day is a great way to send a hug.

If you have daughters, we have lunchbox notes made just for them, but that’s not all. We have so many more free lunchbox notes, including ones created specifically for holidays, some for the end of the school year, and even notes for high schoolers!

Is homework hurting your relationship with your children?  Do you have to nag, scream and threaten to get them started?  There is a better way, but it will take some work by you too.

Getting your kids to do their homework starts with a plan.  This one works almost like magic!  Post it on your refrigerator, magnet board or bulletin board, and have your children mark the squares as they move through the steps.

iMOM’s printable Reading Log is a great way to track your child’s reading adventures! After finishing a book, have your child write down the title and the author. You can also ask him to rate the book with 1-5 stars. By keeping track of the books our kids have read, they’ll be able to see how far they’ve come in a short period of time. Many adults also keep track of the books they read and if this is something you’d enjoy, you and your child could both keep a reading log and compare notes after a month.

Keeping a reading log is a good way for kids to also work on their penmanship and organizational skills, two qualities that become increasing important for success in English Language Arts classes as they get older.

If you have a reluctant reader, iMOM’s Reading Log could also be used as an incentive. Talk with your child about a reward for completing the chart and set a goal to receive that reward. Perhaps five books read independently would earn a trip to the ice cream shop. Maybe 10 books would be a movie night with the family. If you read together and then fill in the reading log as a team, it’ll work just as well. Setting our kids up for success starts with having good literacy skills and a reading log is one tool to get that journey started!

Setting goals and keeping track of your child’s reading on iMOM’s printable Reading Log will show your child that reading is important but also fun!
