What I’d Say to My Younger Mom Self

What advice would you give to your younger self? That question might make you think back to what college you went to, what guy you dated for too long, or how much time you spent with loved ones before they passed away. When you think about your journey through motherhood, there are probably some pieces of advice you’d share with yourself when you were in a previous phase. So that’s our conversation in today’s episode!

One of the newest moms in our office inspired today’s topic when she approached Chloe and thanked her for her openness in episode 91, “New Year! New Baby! New Mom!” Even though Chloe had only been a mom for three months, she had experienced things that the new mom could relate to and benefit from. She said, “You talked about exactly what I was going through right then!” Every mom, whether your kids are two months or 20 years old, has learned something that can help another mom.

So we start by asking, “What advice would you give to your younger self about how your marriage would change?” Then we talk about thinking back to the phase you just left behind. What did you learn from that time? You can’t turn back time, but hopefully, as you think about what advice you’d give to your younger self, you realize that right now, you’re a younger version of a future you! How might that affect the way you parent now?

Hopefully as your children grow, you’re also growing. To do that, you have to hold on to the things you’re learning. Every lesson from one phase and every bit of hindsight can inform your decisions today. So we wrap up our episode by talking about how we can be more mindful and store each day’s wisdom.
